#Goodbyescotland
22 juli 2017 - Ijmuiden, Nederland
Hi there,
Our internship is over, and so is our time in Schotland. I am home by now. The last two days of this internship we spent travelling again, which is always a lot of fun with my friends. Yesterday (friday) morning we said goodbye to Pam at the station rather quickly as our bus was unexpectadly early. Pam has been such a great host! She has been taking extemely good care of us making sure we had everything we needed and besides that always being friendly. It does not feel good that we had to say goodbye this fast. But possibly more important it is that we made it on time in the Bus. (We had to take the Bus to Carleisle as the trains weren't running...) The Bus was full before it's planned departure time so wel left early (great for us as it gave us more time to switch to our trains)
Here there was again an example of the caring nature of the Scottisch. When we left the Bus a lady (working at the Bus) asked if we had our traintickets and after that we heard her tell her Collegue that "the girls had left the Bus". It is so sweet that everybody cares about the well-being.
We were not that luckily with the trains this time. There were quite a lot of people heading to New Castle and the train was short, due to this we weren't able to occupie a table for four which was a pity. Our train drive was fine tho and we arrived perfectly according to planning on New Castle central. During lunch I called DFDS Seaways, who were also organising the bustransfer. This because we were kindoff confused by our tickets. The Lady was however even more confused then we were so we decided to just head to the Bus stop we had been dropped off at and wait for the Bus. Everything turned out perfect and we were even able to take a bus early then planned.
Once we had arrived at the airport we must have been looking suspicious because a guy from the Scottisc government wanted to ask us some questions. Or at least this is what we thought. It happend to be a questionnair for the bureau of statistics so there were no problems at all. Arriving at the boat we had been placed in a simmilar cabin as the first time. (not much surprises here) We droped of our luggage and decided to find a spot with a table to play games this time. (Playing games happens to be not that usefull in a small cabin) As there were no vacant seat in the common area's we decided to get something to drink at the lighthouse cafë and play games over there. We could not however occupy these seats all night so after one game we left to eat our pancakes! (exciting moments) After which we went updeck to get some fresh air.
We spend the rest of the afternoon playing games again at the lighthousecafé (which was closed by now so we had all the space). After a number of games some of us got tired and went to the cabin. Marjolein and I decided to go out on the Deck one last time. (We wanted to look at the stars but there were none) Finishing off the night with some live music and drunk people that couldn't clap at the right time. (fun times)
This morning (saturday) we woke up at 8, Dutch time. (Considering the time difference! Be proud of us) All of still being extremely tired it took us a while to be completely ready after which we still had to wait like 15 minutes before we could leave the boat. The father from Marjolein was there to pick us up. We all felt like we were supposed to be home already and then we still had to drive for 3 hours or so. (quite a dissapointment altough we knew this beforehand) In the end we arrived home around Lunch and it was great to see my mom and my sister again.
See you sometime in the future!
Elise
